Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, Cuban Senator and tobacco grower, fled Cuba in 1959, taking with him the secret of La Gloria Cubana cigars. He began making them in the heart of Little Havana in Miami, Florida in 1968, where their bold taste made them a local favorite. Then, in 1980, his son, Ernesto Jr. blended a unique combination of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos to make La Gloria Cubana even more full-flavored and richer tasting. His efforts paid off, when, in 1992, Cigar Aficionado recognized the superiority of La Gloria Cubana, giving it a 90 rating. Cigar Master Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr. created the La Gloria Cubana Serie R cigars for smokers with a passion for a more full-bodied taste. Introduced in 1999, their larger sizes and ring gauges helped create today's tremendous demand for a fuller, richer-flavored smoke.

In 1999, Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr. decided he wanted to bring something special to his many La Gloria Cubana customers. The final Serie R masterpiece, the No. 7 (7' X 58) is a tribute to Ernesto's late father, Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Sr., who founded the family's cigar business in the Little Havana section of Miami in 1968.
