Perdomo Cigars

Perdomo cigars have extensive roots that go back to San Jose de las Lajas, Cuba, an agricultural municipality just south of Havana. Silvio Perdomo, the first of the Perdomo family to become involved in the cigar trade, worked in the H. Upmann and Partagas factories, both of which were highly regarded for their meticulous manufacturing practices. His son, Nick Perdomo, Sr., began to follow in his footsteps, working in the Martin & Trujillo and eventually the Partagas factory with his father.

When the Cuban Revolution took place in 1959, Silvio Perdomo was imprisoned for 15 years in two different prisons as an "enemy of Castro's revolution." Nick Perdomo, Sr. was shot and critically wounded by pre-Castro guerillas, and was taken out of the hospital on a gurney to the U.S., narrowly escaping summary execution. Silvio was later permitted to leave Cuba in 1974 - but this all happened well before Tabacalera Perdomo was founded.

Nick Perdomo, Jr., born and raised in Washington, D.C. and later Miami, FL, started making Perdomo cigar sin his garage in 1992. The company was originally called Nick's Cigar Co., employed only three torcedors, with Nick Perdomo, Jr. and his wife, Janine, working as packers. While the industry trend in the early 90s was leaning towards mild-bodied cigars, Nick's Cigar Co. used robust wrappers and fillers from Ecuador and Central America.

Today, Perdomo cigars are manufactured in an 88,000 square foot facility in Esteli, Nicaragua, informally dubbed "El Monstro," or "The Monster." The company has put out countless brands since its humble beginnings, many of which have received impressive ratings from cigar critics; the Perdomo Habano Torpedo Corojo received a 90 percent rating from Cigar Aficionado, while the Toro Corojo from that line received a 9.5 from Smoke Magazine. Perdomo 10 Year Reserve received several 89 and 90 percent reviews from Cigar Aficionado and Cigar Insider, further bolstering the company's place in the cigar world.
