EP Carrillo Cigars are blended by Ernesto Perez Carrillo, the creator of La Gloria Cubana cigars. Ernesto Perez Carrillo learned the art of cigar making from his father Ernesto Sr. who owned a cigar factory called El Credito in Little Havana, Miami. After his father’s passing in 1980, Ernesto took over the family business and took control of El Credito. It wasn’t until the creation of La Gloria Cubana that Ernesto began to experience great success in the cigar industry. When four La Gloria Cubana cigars received over 90 points in Cigar Aficionado in 1992, Ernesto’s name as a master blender was put on the map.
In 2009, with the help of his children, Ernesto created EP Carrillo cigars. Ernesto’s success can be summed up best in his philosophy on cigar making: “Each tobacco has its own character. You have to treat each tobacco differently and understand how they work together.” Ernesto experimented with different types of tobacco from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Honduras until he came up with the perfect blend for EP Carrillo cigars. It uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and Dominican and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos. This results in a sweet, peppery smoke with notes of cedar and coffee. E.P. Carrillo cigars also feature a perfect burn and airtight construction, as they are rolled in the traditional Cuban way, as Ernesto learned from his father.
