Altadis to Release New Romeo y Julieta Cigar by Boutique Blends
Industry giant Altadis U.S.A. has joined forces with Boutique Blends to create an unprecedented limited-edition cigar: the Romeo by Romeo y Julieta Aging Room Small Batch F25.
The experimental project was born when Altadis tasked Boutique Blends owner and Aging Room cigars master blender Rafael Nodal with creating his own small-batch interpretation of the famous Romeo y Julieta brand. Nodal answered the challenge by delving deep into the collection of unique, aged Dominican tobaccos grown and archived by José “Jochy” Blanco. The Romeo by Romeo y Julieta Aging Room cigar is a Dominican puro, blended around Cuban-seed tobaccos cultivated in the Dominican Republic’s Cibao valley.
In regards to the collaboration, Nodal told Cigar Insider, “It is unbelievable that I can work with one of the biggest brands in the world. When I created the blend for this cigar, I really had to consider the history of the Romeo y Julieta brand and appeal to its classic elements by making it as refined as possible.” Nodal described the blend by saying, “Some of the areas in the Cibao valley have the deepest topsoil in the world,” said Nodal. “It produces very distinct tobacco. ”
This Romeo/Aging Room collaboration follows in the footsteps of Espada by Montecristo, which was made in Nicaragua for Altadis by legendary blender Nestor Plasencia.
Set to hit shelves in April, Romeo by Romeo y Julieta Aging Room cigars are being rolled at Tabacalera La Palma in the Dominican Republic. The cigar will be available in three sizes, named for musical terms in the Aging Room tradition: Copla (5×48 ring), Capriccio (6×54), and Cantaor, a 6×52 belicoso. Packaged in boxes of 20, total production of the new Romeo will not exceed 250,000 cigars. Look for the Romeo by Romeo y Julieta Aging Room Small Batch F25 to arrive at BCP sometime in the coming weeks.
