Baseball and Cigars – A Match Made in Heaven!

The 2012 World Series will begin with game 1 this Wednesday, October 24 at the home stadium of the National League champion.  This year the Detroit Tigers will go up against either the St. Louis Cardinals or the San Francisco Giants. We’re excited for the Tigers this year because of their love for cigars. This past July the Detroit Tigers opened the CLE Cigar Bar in Comerica Park. The CLE Cigar Bar offers luxurious amenities for guests with their private VIP entrance, full service bar and spectacular view of the field.

An executive of the Detroit Tigers gave the perfect quote describing the beauty of enjoying a cigar at the ballpark: “Baseball is a relaxing sport… Enjoying a cigar and a drink goes along with that. We want fans to have a well-rounded experience when they come to the ballpark, and cigars reach out to another segment of our fan base.” With their Triple Crown win by Miguel Cabrera this year as well as making it to the World Series, the Tigers picked a great year to open their ridiculously cool cigar lounge.  Because of the high demand for cigar friendly sections at major league ballparks hopefully more stadiums will open cigar bars.

Good cigars are a necessity when it comes to enjoying the championship series so let’s get in the mood with some of the best cigars to puff while watching a game. Recently we reviewed Rocky Patel’s HR 500, the cigar made to commemorate baseball legend Gary Sheffield’s 500th home run. This cigar is a special celebratory blend that features an Ecuadorian Habano seed wrapper, Honduras Jamastran binder and tobacco filler from Honduras and Nicaragua and is the perfect cigar to enjoy while watching the championships.

CLE makes some pretty tasty cigars and we think the Cuarenta’s are an excellent choice. CLE has been receiving big industry buzz for their solid construction and complex flavors. The Cuarenta is a medium bodied blend that is a very relaxing and easily enjoyable smoke. If you’re looking for a solid medium stogie with bold flavor and a flawless performance we highly recommend CLE’s Cuarenta.

Sancho Panza is a reputable Honduran smoke with regular ratings of 90 or above from Cigar Aficionado. This popular brand is a versatile stogie that suits cigar enthusiasts with a variety of tastes due to it’s wide range of pleasant aromas.  Sancho Panza offers a great value as well as a great tasting cigar that is perfect for enjoying at a game.

Baseball and cigars are a pretty amazing pairing, it’s unfortunate you can’t enjoy a good cigar inside major league baseball parks but it’s nice that a few stadiums, including Comerica Park, have built in cigar bars. This week we encourage you to relax, light up a stogie and enjoy the 2012 World Series.
