BCP News Brief – New Smokes From Ortega Cigar Co. & La Palina
A lighter-wrapped version of the Ortega Cigars Serie D is set to land on shelves within the next few weeks, according to company founder and President Eddie Ortega. The Ortega Serie D Natural features a unique Ecuador Habano Rosado wrapper atop a medium-to-full bodied blend of long-filler tobaccos from the Esteli and Jalapa regions of Nicaragua, and is the second release from the newly forged Ortega Cigar Company, following the release of the Serie D Maduro earlier this year. If the Natural Serie D turns out to be even half as tasty as the Maduro, we’re all in for a treat. Look for these solid new smokes to hit our humidor by the end of this month.
Another new stogie on the horizon is a limited-release blend from the newly re-vamped La Palina cigars. A cigar with a particularly interesting personal touch, the La Palina Goldie Laguito was handmade at the El Titan de Bronze factory in Miami entirely by one single roller. Maria Sierra, a Cuban torcedor originally from the Miramar neighborhood of Havana, was charged with the task of rolling all 10,000 Goldies, putting her 45 years of cigar-rolling experience to work. The blend of the Goldie consists of an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, an Ecuador binder, and a mix of premium Nicaraguan and Dominican long-fillers. Measuring in at 6 inches x 38, which is a popular Cuban vitola known as the Laguito #2, the La Palina Goldie will be limited to 1000 boxes of 10, with each box signed and numbered by Sierra. According to brand owner Bill Paley the La Palina Goldie Laguito is set to ship out next week. Kudos to Sierra for her efforts, hopefully she’s somewhere on the warm sands of Miami giving her hands a much-needed break.
