BCP News Brief – La Flor Dominicana Discontinues 30+ Products
La Flor Dominicana has recently informed retailers of a major portfolio reduction that will eliminate more than 30 items from their current product line-up. The most significant of the changes is the discontinuation of the Coronado line in its entirety.
Other lines that will see major changes include the La Flor Dominicana 2000, which will have eight of its nine sizes removed, leaving only the No. 3 (4 5/8 x 40), and the milder Suave line be reduced from seven to three sizes with the Alcade, Demitasse, Grand Maduro No. 5 and Macheteros being discontinued. Reserva Especial will shed its Belicoso, Churchill, Figurado and Robusto sizes.
LFD Ligero will lose the L250 and Torpedo sizes, Double Ligero loses the Chisel Gorda and Churchill Natural and the Air Bender Habano line will no longer include Villano and Perfecto sizes. Though the Cameroon Cabinet Chisel is safe for now, it will see an increase in its package count from 20 to 24 cigars.
In addition to regular production cigar lines, the limited edition Cameroon Cabinet Lancero, Diadema Duo, and the La Flor Dominicana Culebras have also been nixed, along with the company’s Los Perfectos, OYA Maduro and OYA Natural cigar samplers.
The majority of the lines being slimmed down are not La Flor’s full-bodied selections that are largely responsible for the company’s great popularity in recent years. One can deduce that the product changes are evident of La Flor switching focus to concentrate on the stronger smokes that have proved most successful for the brand.
