BCP News Brief – New Developments for La Aurora, La Flor Dominicana

Guillermo Leon, head of La Aurora Cigars, has announced the introduction of a new size for their popular 107 line, which debuted in 2010 to celebrate the company’s 107th anniversary. The 107 Sumo Short Robusto measures in at a stout 4×58, and will mark the 5th size now available for the blend. The Sumo will be sold in boxes of 21 and will enjoy ongoing production along with the rest of the 107 lines. Look for the La Aurora 107 Sumo Short Robusto to be on shelves sometime this April.

As reported by, La Flor Dominicana will be undergoing a re-branding of sorts, with an upcoming change to the name and packaging of their premium cigar line. While the blend itself will remain the same, the cigars will now be referred to as “La Flor Dominicana Light”, and the boxes will see a re-design, although it is unclear how soon the change will take place. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as we learn more about the particulars of the change.

Finally, on a sad note, former Ybor City Mayor and Tampa cigar legend Marcelo Marseda passed away early Saturday at the age of 92, according to Tampa Bay A civic leader in Ybor City and Tampa since the 1960’s, Marseda was well-known in the community as a lover of cigars and avid baseball fanatic. Friends and family say that Marseda was seldom ever seen without stogie in hand, and even after quitting smoking 20 years ago, he continued to chew his beloved Arturo Fuentes. We extend our condolences to the Marseda family, as this aficionado will surely be missed.
