BCP News Brief: Reyes Sr. Passes, New Size For La Aurora 107 & Romeo Minis Arrive
The cigar world lost a true legend of the leaf earlier this week when Puros Indios Cigars founder Rolando Reyes Sr. passed away on Sunday evening in Miami. He was 89 years old.
Reyes opened up his first cigar factory, named “Cuba Aliados”, in Union City, New Jersey after emigrating to the U.S. from Cuba in the 1970’s. After several transitions, the company finally settled in Honduras during the 1990’s, where his cigars are still produced to this day. Known as a dedicated professional with a true passion for cigars, Reyes was a well-respected member of the cigar community and had worked in the industry for an impressive 80 years. We extend our greatest condolences to the Reyes family, as Rolando Sr. will surely be missed.
In other news, La Aurora Cigars has announced plans to release a new seventh vitola for their best-selling 107 cigar line. According to Cigar Aficionado, Miami Cigar and Company, the U.S.distributor for La Aurora, will be introducing a 7 ¼ x 52 Salomon size to the current 107 roster, slated for release this summer.
The La Aurora 107 line was originally released in 2010 to commemorate the 107th anniversary of the company, and is comprised of a blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos wrapped in a sweet and spicy sun-grown wrapper. Look for the 107 Salomon to appear on shelves sometime in June.
And finally, new to our shelves here at BCP is a new cigarillo-sized offering from Romeo y Julieta. Romeo y Julieta Minis are the latest small smokes from the famous brand and come in two different blends, Original, and Mild Blue. The Original blend is a quick-smoke version of Romeo’s 1875 line, while the Mild Blue is an extra-smooth, mild bodied blend. Romeo y Julieta Minis measure in at 2 7/8x 20, and are available in boxes of 100 in convenient 20-count tins.
