BCP Pairing Session: #15: Fall Edition – All the Curry in the World

Beverage: IPA

Cigar: Medium-Bodied Hondurans

Eats: Slow-Cooker Chicken Curry

Why It Works: If you’re going to pair curry, you’ll need some hops to cut through the spice, so find yourself a solid IPA and let those strong flavors duke it out. But everything doesn’t have to be a full on assault of the senses, so fire up a medium-bodied Honduran blend and mellow out.

Slow-Cooker Chicken Curry Recipe:

5 boneless, skinless Chicken Breasts

1 jar of Chunky Salsa (strength to preference, but Medium works well)

2 tablespoons Yellow Curry Powder

1 Onion (diced)

1/2 cup Cream Cheese

  1. Cut chicken breasts in half and place in slow cooker.
  2. Combine Salsa, Yellow Curry Powder and diced onions in a bowl.
  3. Pour salsa, curry and onion mixture over chicken and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours.
  4. After 8-10 hours, stir in cream cheese and let cook for 15 more minutes.
  5. Serve with Rice.

Kick it up a Notch: Any time I’m working with something sauce based, I’m looking to get some form of bread in the mix, especially if you’re having something spicy like curry. Get your hands on some Naan Bread, or if you’re feeling adventurous, make some of your own (you’ll certainly have the time with the slow-cooker).
