Steak Sandwich with Caramelized Onions, Provolone & Balsamic Glaze Recipe:

Ingredients:

3 lbs Strip Loin Steak

2 tablespoons Olive Oil

2 tablespoons Butter

2 Vidalia Onions (sliced)

1 lbs Provolone Cheese

1 French Baguette

16 oz Balsamic Vinegar

1/2 cup Sugar

Salt & Pepper

Instructions:

  1. Caramelize onions. In a skillet, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat till melted. Add the sliced onions and cook till they turn golden brown. This can take 20-40 minutes, so make sure to move them around so they evenly cook and don’t burn. Once they are cooked, transfer them a bowl.
  2. Make balsamic glaze. Pour balsamic vinegar into a saucepan, add 1/2 cup sugar and a pinch of salt. Place the saucepan over medium heat till the vinegar comes to a boil. Stir and allow to simmer till glaze thickens and reduces by half. This can take around 30 minutes.
  3. Grill the steak. It’s a thin steak, so factor that in and don’t overcook it.
  4. Once the steak is done, season it with salt and pepper and let sit for a moment before slicing it into thin strips.
  5. Prepare the French baguette. Slice it in half lengthwise and place on a cookie sheet.
  6. Layer the sandwich on the baguette. Cheese, steak, glaze, onions and another layer of cheese.
  7. Heat the oven to 425 degrees. Place the sandwich in the oven for 5-7 minutes to melt the cheese.
  8. Slice into individual serving sections.

Kick it up a Notch: Why waste a good glaze? Try using some of that balsamic glaze on a fun, fresh side. Watermelon Feta Bites are simple, delicious and refreshing. Take a watermelon and a block of feta cheese, cut them into squares and serve the pair like cheese and crackers but drizzle some balsamic glaze on these guys.
