The Saint Luis Rey brand’s follow-up to the 93-rated Carenas ties modern aging techniques to the roots of tobacco history with delicious results.
Produced at the legendary Honduran Flor de Copan S.A. factory, the ultra-smooth Saint Luis Rey Carenas Ultramar wraps its extensively aged Honduran and Nicaraguan interior tobaccos in a rich Nicaraguan Habano leaf to create its compelling silky character.
The Spanish term “Ultramar” in the cigar’s moniker means “across the sea,” which in this instance refers to the blend’s extensively aged tobaccos. The idea is that when tobaccos were transported to Spain from the New World in the sixteenth century, stored in barrels in clandestine parts of the ship to keep the valuable commodity safe from pirates, they incidentally underwent the first known processes of fermentation and aging. So, the patiently aged flavors of the Ultramar are akin to the original cigars that arrived upon Columbus’s return for the inspection of Spain’s King Ferdinand II. Medium in body, the Ultramar spills forth balanced tones of earth, nuts, espresso, and a lingering subtle sweetness over the course of its slow, deliberate, and satisfying burn.
Offered in four unique sizes, while the Ultramar’s flavor is fit for a king, it’s available to all townsfolk right here at the lowest prices.
