TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) — Attorney General Pam Bondi sent a letter to the federal government addressing concerns over proposed regulations trying to link e-cigarettes and other tobacco products to rules meant for the cigarette industry.
In the letter she said the federal government is going “overboard” with the proposed regulations.
Also mentioned in the Article:
“This 119-year-old premium cigar company with 130 employees is truly unique in this industry and should not be regulated in the same manner as the nation’s largest cigarette companies,” Bondi wrote on Friday, the deadline for submissions on the federal plan.
The J.C Newman Factory is located in Florida (Tampa AKA: Cigar City) her home state. Which means that any job losses the FDA will impose on those workers directly affects the state where she lives.
The worst part of the potential job losses is that many of those individuals have been working at that cigar factory for decades. Meaning they have very little experience doing anything else. So they will lose their living wage job and be tossed on to the street with little chance of keeping a similar living standard for themselves and their family.
We hope the FDA will listen to Attorney General Pam Bondi and consider her opinion.
