H.R. 1639 Update – New Cosponsor of S. 1461
As of yesterday we have a new co-sponsor of S. 1461, the bill that petitions to protect cigars from harmful FDA regulations. United States Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) is the most recent addition to the list of legislators who want to protect the premium cigar industry from the FDA’s regulations.
Growing in support, H.R. 1639 is the companion bill of S. 1461, and now has 219 co-sponsors. S. 1461 has 14 co-sponsors out of the 51 United States senators needed to compose a majority. Each of the bills still need to be passed by Congress and signed by the president before becoming the law.
The FDA regulation could ban walk-in humidors at cigar shops, have major restrictions on advertising and even eliminate selling premium cigars online. This legislation is extremely threatening to the premium cigar industry and could have a huge impact on the future of cigars.
While the fight is still underway, the cigar industry and cigar aficionados alike have made significant progress thus far. It’s important that we stand up for our rights and continue to make our voices heard in order to protect the things we love. This is not just an issue of over-regulation; this is an issue of our rights and preserving our quality of life. We encourage you to visit Cigar Rights of America to learn more about what you can do to stop the FDA from controlling the world of cigars!
