Humidor Auction Raises Over $1 Million For Cuba’s Public Healthcare System

H. Upmann humidor auctioned off at Habano Festival

Habanos S.A. held their annual festival last week and to end the festivities they had an auction of fine humidors. Over $1 million dollars was raised during the auction with proceeds going into Cuba’s Public Healthcare System.

The auction was held at the final gala dinner where six humidors were auctioned off, each unique in their own way. The humidors in the auction were made by some of the best cigar artists in the industry. Each humidor had an elaborate design on the outside and on the inside carried some of the most sought after cigars on the market.

Over a thousand cigar enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the end of the Habano Festival where actor Danny Glover received the 15th Habano Festival Special Award for his efforts in bringing peace to Cuba. Glover emphasized the unjust imprisonment of five Cuban antiterrorists stating: “five brave men who deserve to come back home with their families,” he said.

Co-president of Habanos S.A., Walfrido Hernandez and Luis Sanchez Harguindey, gave guests a special tribute and invited them to be the first to smoke a Partagas Grand Reserve, a cigar saved for this memorable event.

Throughout the night several awards were handed out including the Habano of the Year Award in the Communication category, an award that went to former tennis star, Boris Becker. At the end of the evening the collection of unique humidors were auctioned off bringing in over $1 million dollars.
