Live From Las Vegas At IPCPR 2013!

Best Cigar Prices is excited to be at this year’s IPCPR Convention and International Trade show located at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Most of the team has been to IPCPR before but it’s actually my first time. I have to admit, walking onto the floor for the first time seeing everyone in the industry all under one roof was pretty exciting. From the endless amount of unique new products to the elaborate, beautifully designed booths, and not to mention the fact that this year’s show is in Vegas… needless to say, day one of the show was pretty awesome.

The annual convention officially didn’t start until Sunday however guests were able to attend a seminar on the FDA and what businesses in the industry need to know in order to protect themselves. In the afternoon guests were invited to attend a bourbon tasting and cigar pairing. Bourbon was provided by Tatoosh Craft Distillery and cigars were provided by J.C. Newman Cigar Company. The IPCPR opening reception and gala was held Saturday evening at the Venetian Ballroom where hors d’ oeuvres, cocktails and other refreshments were served.

Sunday was the official kick-off of the show and started with an annual meeting and breakfast. During the breakfast several guest speakers, including Mike Ditka, discussed industry news as well as information on IPCPR’s efforts to support the industry through unique programs and legislative advocacy. At 10:30 the trade show opened and it seemed like everyone was lighting up their cigars with excitement.

We visited multiple booths throughout the day including Altadis, Boutique Blends, CLE, Villiger, Victor Vitale and Alec Bradley. Our first stop was Altadis where we got to see several new products including the all new Monte by Montecristo and the Juan Lopez. Both cigars are available in three sizes and are classic cigars with a twist. We’re excited to get our hands on both of them!

The CLE booth had a variety of awesome cigars to browse, all of which were pretty different. Wynwood had a line of Factory Fresh cigars each with exquisite artwork that had everyone stopping to take a look. The Osok “One Shot One Kill” was another new item at the CLE booth that seemed to be getting a lot of attention.

Another highlight from the day was hearing about Alec Bradley’s recent project of sending 5 Mundial cigars into space. Upon arrival to the show we had heard about the space cigars but almost couldn’t even believe it. Alan Rubin, owner of Alec Bradley cigars, told us a little bit about the experiment. “We made history as we are the first company to launch cigars into space,” Rubin explained.

On Saturday a team got together and launched 5 Mundial cigars into space from atop of the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Fully equipped with 3 camera’s, the cigars were attached to a weather balloon and were successfully released into the stratosphere. The cigars traveled about 18 miles up before the weather balloon ruptured activating the parachute. Rubin and others from Alec Bradley were unsure where the cigars would land, worrying they might not find them.

“We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to retrieve the cigars,” Rubin said. “If they landed in the lake or on the Air Force Base nearby we would not have been able to get them back.” The cigars were tracked down through the GPS unit attached and were found about two hours north of Las Vegas in the Sheep Range mountains.

We also heard that Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger himself attended the show on the first day however we did not have the pleasure of bumping into him. All in all it was a great day and we’re excited to go back for more over the next few days.
