Lito Gomez and Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Join ProCigar
Lito Gomez, maker of La Flor Dominicana cigars, and Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, the man behind E.P. Carrillo, are now part of ProCigar. With the latest addition this now means that every major cigar personality in the Dominican Republic is a member of La Asociacion de Fabricantes de Cigarros de la Republica Dominicana, also known as ProCigar.
Created in 1992, ProCigar’s main objective is to protect and preserve tobacco and the tobacco industry in the Dominican Republic. ProCigar is committed to following the footsteps of cigar visionaries who first recognized the fertile mountain valleys in the Dominican Republic as ideal tobacco country. The idea is to pass these traditions on from generation to generation to keep the quality tobacco consistent.
Gomez and Perez-Carrillo told Cigar Aficionado that joining ProCigar felt like coming home. Both Gomez and Perez-Carrillo were familiar with ProCigar before joining. Gomez has been making cigars in the Dominican Republic for 19 years while Perez-Carrillo has been in the cigar industry for over 40 years. “It was the proper time all the cigars aligned,” Gomez told Cigar Aficionado. “It’s time for unity, for being together as a cigar-producing country.”
The news of the newest members comes at the perfect time with the ProCigar Festival taking place a few weeks away from February 17th – 22nd in the Dominican Republic. This week long event will give consumers the chance to experience the cigar world Dominican Republic style. Factory and tobacco field tours will also be included in the event with a gala dinner to end the festival.
