NFL Players Light up at pre-Pro Bowl Party
According to an article in Cigar Aficionado, NFL players relaxed before the Pro Bowl with a night of kalua pig (Hawaiian pulled pork), fireworks, and Kauai cigars this past Wednesday night. Hawaii’s typically warm weather allowed the players to celebrate comfortably as much of the rest of the country froze their asses off in anticipation of the game on Sunday.
While not all of the players were regular cigar smokers, a good time was had by all. My personal favorite remark of the night was by Cowboys’ outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware, who said, “I don’t smoke—I chew ‘em.”
Players were also happy that this year’s game will take place in Hawaii, rather than Miami, as it did last year. The reason given was that since no pro football is played in Hawaii during the regular season, it’s an especially big deal when an event like the Pro Bowl takes place there.
A few players who were new to cigar smoking dove right in and tried some of the Hawaiian cigars. “Which one should I have?” Houston Texans fullback Vonta Leach asked Tai Erum, the rep for Kauai. Erum explained to Leach that while they’re both mild, the one with the darker wrapper were a little stronger.
Kauai cigars contain leaf grown in Kapa’a, Kauai, along with some filler tobacco from Nicaragua to add some extra richness. While we don’t carry these yet, they’re on our long list of must-have product that will hopefully be in our humidor soon
Anyway, thanks to Cigar Aficionado for reporting on this story, because as far as I can tell, nobody else has gotten their hands on it yet. I know I’ll be lighting up for the Pro Bowl on Sunday—if your humidor’s empty, now’s the right time to stock up (had to throw it in there somewhere)!
