Rating: 90 by Cigar Aficionado

Arturo Fuente Anejos cigars are essentially the Maduro-wrapped equivalent of the famous Opus X blend. The smoke is nothing short of profound; notes of chocolate, coffee, and boozy sweetness radiate from the Maduro wrapper leaf, which has been aged in cognac barrels for several months. The Dominican binder and filler grown at Chateau Fuente add pepper and cedar notes, along with many subtle nuances that make this one of the most complex smokes available.

Rafael's thoughts

This is my second favorite Fuentes product. I have not seen it lately on the site.

"Why do I buy anything else?"

every single time I smoke an Anejo I wonder why I buy anything else. That is the truth. Every single time. Grab a nice grip and rest them up. They only get better with time. Also, I find they perform better around 65% RH.

Outstanding Limited Production Full Bodied Cigar

To my knowledge, the Arturo Fuente Anejo is a limited production full bodied cigar that is generally distributed to retailers in small quantities just before Father's Day and shortly before Christmas. While the No 77 aka "Shark" is one of the most coveted cigars on the planet, the No 48 (which this review is about) has earned praise for prolonging that infamous Anejo flavor. The outstanding construction of the Anejo No 48 is on display with the eye-catching dark and sturdy Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. Although the cigar is a full bodied smoke, it starts out smooth and sweet yet slightly spicy. Notes of coffee bean and vanilla are very prevalent at the beginning of this magnificent cigar. As the cigar progresses, cocoa, cognac and caramel flavors add to this top notch cigar that has complexity from beginning to end. I would definitely recommend this smoke to the full bodied cigar enthusiast. The quality and exclusivity of the Anejo make it the perfect celebratory cigar. I would recommend pairing with an aged bourbon, vintage single malt Scotch, or top shelf cognac.
