Wrapper: Equadoran. Filler: Nicaraguan. Binder: Nicaraguan. Country of Manufacture: Dominican Republic. Factory Name: El Credito. -- The history: In 1970, Cigar Master Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Sr. created El Rico Habano, the first line of cigars rolled at his factory in Miami's Little Havana section. The reaction to this full-bodied smoke was terrific, and El Rico Habano became a sought-after selection among seasoned smokers. Although a tobacco shortage in 1994 forced El Rico Habano to cease production, it was re-introduced by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr. in 2001 upon the return of Nicaragua's superb tobacco crop. Today, "The Rich One" is back in its original full-bodied taste and strength. The cigar: Each El Rico Habano starts with carefully selected long filler tobacco from Nicaragua. It's given a rich Nicaraguan binder, wrapped in a specially aged sun-grown leaf from Ecuador, and then aged again in a Spanish cedar room to maximize its deep, rich flavor. The experience: "The Rich One" describes perfectly what you may expect from this exquisite cigar - a bold, rich, one-of-a-kind flavor from start to finish.
A cigar with the El Rico name was available years ago. They were a slow-burning full-bodied strong cigar - strong strong. These new ones are dialed back somewhat, very enjoyable, and well-worth trying.

This is the strongest cigar you can buy without a prescription. Bar none. I've tried all the double and triple and octuple ligeros. They simply can't match the power of El Rico. Aroma de Cuba and Joya de Nicaragua come in close second, but still lag behind in sheer power. Mind you, this is not a rich, complex cigar. It is burn-your-mouth-out black pepper matched with more nicotine than you have ever experienced. Sit down (seriously, be near a chair) and enjoy after a great steak.
