601 Cigars

The name Don Jose “Pepin” Garcia is well known among new smokers and aficionados alike. Born in Cuba, Pepin has continued to make quality cigars throughout the years. The 601 is a relativley new brand for Pepin, being released in August, 2006. 601 is made in Esteli, Nicaragua at the Tabacalara Cubana factory. It is owned and distributed by United Tobacco. Boasting more than 100 rollers, this factory has produced other lines such as Tatuaje and San Cristobal which have both received 90 ratings in Cigar Aficionado. The 601 is certainly no exception to this rule, as the 601 Habano Robusto received a 90 rating in the October issue of Aficionado.
601 is available in four different shades, which will surely please any smoker. The 601 Connecticut, or Black Line, is a medium-full bodied smoke. The filler and binder are both Nicaraguan, combined with an Ecuadorian-grown Connecticut wrapper make for a nice everyday cigar. The 601 Habano Line is a full-bodied smoke. The filler and binder are both Nicaraguan as well, combined with a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper. The 601 Habano is sometimes mistakenly called Maduro, but that is not the case. The 601 Maduro is not only the first box-pressed cigar ever made by Pepin, but also his first Maduro. The filler and binder are both aged Nicaraguan, combined with a Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper. The first Maduro cigar by Pepin is one that you surely can’t miss. The 601 Habano Oscuro is the most recent addition to this line, and is certainly the most powerful. The filler and binder are the same as the other 601's, being Nicaraguan leaf, combined with a Nicaraguan Habano Oscuro wrapper.
