EP Carrillo Cigars are blended by Ernesto Perez Carrillo, the creator of La Gloria Cubana cigars. Founded in 2009, EP Carrillo cigars are blended under the company philosophy that “Each tobacco has its own character. You have to treat each tobacco differently and understand how they work together.” With such a wide range of deliciously well-rounded blends in his portfolio, to say that Ernesto understands how different tobaccos work together is a vast understatement; treat yourself to any of our EP Carrillo cigars and we're sure you'll agree.
EP Carrillo Cigars -
Legendary cigar architect and owner of EP Carrillo cigars, EP Carrillo has been crafting fine cigars since his humble beginnings making cigars in his father’s El Credito factory in Miami's "Little Havana" district in the 1970s. After his father’s passing in 1980, EP took over the reins at El Credito, beginning his career as a leading figure in the cigar industry.
Initially enduring years of sluggish sales and financial difficulties, the ever-resilient Ernesto Jr. finally struck gold with his creation of the original La Gloria Cubana cigar. Inspired by the success of the Cuban Davidoff cigar line, the La Gloria was blended to be a cigar that truly “excited the senses,” and became an immediate hit among Miami locals. Looking back, this can probably be considered the first real EP Carrillo cigars.
After enjoying the status of “local favorite” for a couple of years, the La Gloria Cubana brand exploded in 1992 when four of its nine cigars scored 90 or higher in an up-and-coming review publication called Cigar Aficionado. Word spread quickly, and this boutique brand suddenly went from selling a few thousand cigars a year to millions, outperforming even its fiercest Cuban competitors and cementing Carrillo’s reputation as one of the world’s top cigar blenders.
Ernesto eventually sold El Credito to industry giant Swedish Match in 1999, but continued to work for the company until 2009 when, at the urging of his children, he started out in his own business venture: the EPC Cigar Company (EP Carrillo Cigars). With the help of his son, Ernesto III, and daughter, Lissette, the family-run boutique brand released the first EP Carrillo “Core Line” cigars the following year to much critical acclaim.
Ernesto Sr has a knack for finding perfect combinations of tobaccos from different countries and regions. His Cuban-seed Dominican tobaccos blend flawlessly with rich Nicaraguan leaves in the EP Carrillo Core Line cigar to deliver a spot-on medium body with rich and creamy flavors.
Ernesto’s ideals of consistency, tradition, and passion for perfection are evidenced in every cigar the EPC Cigar Co. produces. Today the Carrillo family provides their customers with a diverse portfolio of cigar blends and sizes to satisfy even the most discerning cigar lover. Choose from our wide selection of EP Carrillo cigars and introduce yourself to some of the finest artisan cigar blends that the world has ever known.
EP Carrillo La Historia
Possibly the most celebrated of the Carrillo cigars, La Historia was blended to pay tribute to the Carrillo Family's rich cigar history. Elegant in appearance and soothing to the senses, the box-pressed La Historia showcases a thick and oily San Andrés Sungrown Maduro wrapper over an Ecuadoran Sumatra binder and a filler blend of 100% Nicaraguan tobaccos. This special tobacco recipe gives way to an unmatched, satisfying, and complex taste, delivering rich notes of roasted nuts, espresso, black pepper, and dark chocolate and an intoxicating aroma.
Presented in flawless felt lined boxes of ten, La Historia earned the distinction of being named Cigar Aficionado’s #2 Cigar of 2014 as well as an impressive 95 rating for the E-III size.
