Drew Estate, the pioneers behind Acid cigars, was founded by Jonathan Drew and Marvin Samel in 1995. The idea behind the company has always been, “Work hard, play hard.” After leaving their promising careers in law, Drew and Samel forged a bond that has shattered the traditional mold of the cigar industry. Their first cigar was a house brand, La Vieja Habana, that they sold at the World Trade Center Mall, and with the success of this blend, Drew and Samel took it to the 1997 RTDA show. Drew Estate made light of a tragic event, Hurricane Mitch in 1998, which allowed them to move to Esteli, Nicaragua at a price they could afford. Jonathan Drew couldn’t even speak a word of Spanish, or drive a stick shift when they moved to their new home. At the opening of the factory, Drew Estate only had a mere two employees, which is simply amazing considering where they are today. By continuing to experiment with an infusion process that was uncommon at the time, Jonathan Drew began to get the respect of his fellow tobacco growers. After years of working hard to perfect his personal blend, Drew felt that Acid cigars were ready to be released to the public.

Drew and Samel met with Scott Chester, a well known industrial artist who owns ACID (Arielle Chester Industrial Design), which is a art studio located on Brooklyn’s waterfront. The three agreed to work together on these cigars, and the name Acid cigars was an obvious fit. In Scott Chester’s own words, “The ACID concept represents a lifestyle intended to depict a person who is not afraid to explore the Earth or explore life, whether on a motorcycle or in his thoughts and expressions.” Drew Estate wanted to create a cigar that could allow the smoker to smoke the highest quality tobacco, as well as something that is infused with the highest quality herbs and botanical essences.
