Davidoff

Davidoff is a luxury brand that is known throughout the world for high class quality products. Zino Davidoff, founder of Davidoff, was born in 1906 in Kiev, Ukraine. After being oppressed by the Anti-Semitism prevalent in Russian society during this time, the Davidoff family fled to Geneva, Switzerland. Zino’s parents were involved in the cigar business in one way or another. After opening up their own tobacco shop, Zino Davidoff went to Latin America to expand his knowledge on cigars. Davidoff spent two years at a Cuban plantation, where he first encountered the infamous “Cuban Cigar”. As World War II waged on, Switzerland’s neutral position allowed for it to become a safe, stable area for luxury cigar smokers to congregate. Around this time, Zino Davidoff marketed some successful Cuban cigar lines, wrote a few books on smoking and invented the first desktop cigar humidor.

Cubatabaco, the Cuban state’s tobacco organization, approached Davidoff to create a personal blend at the El Laguito factory in Havana, Cuba. This legendary factory was the place where Fidel Castro’s personal blend of cigars were manufactured. After a falling out with Cubatabaco, Zino Davidoff discontinued the Cuban Davidoff line in 1991, and began production on the Dominican Davidoff line. After Zino Davidoff’s passing, master cigar blender Hendrik Kelner oversaw the production of Davidoff cigars.
