Back when Juarez was released in 2020, I was lucky enough to catch up with Crowned Heads VP of Sales, Miguel Schoedel , and he pitched me the inside baseball on how the brand—and box art came to be. He told me that Juarez was created to be a “value-conscious alternative to Jericho Hill.” In fact, both blends were inspired by Johnny Cash’s version of Cocaine Blues. The bull on the band symbolizes Mexico (a reference to its San Andrés wrapper leaf)—as does the Juarez name—but those tally marks on its back thigh are a nod to Folsom Prison Blues and the stereotypical way prisoners mark their years behind bars.

“The price point is very accessible to all smokers,” Miguel added. “Jon [Huber, Crowned Heads co-founder] says it best: the blend punches way above its weight in price.”

Additionally, Juarez features an Ecuador Sumatran binder and longfiller leaves from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.

Conclusion

I’d recommend Juarez to anyone looking to dip their toes into Crowned Heads’ set list. For one, there’s the price, which is incredibly affordable—even in a post tariff cigar market. A 5-Pack of the Jack Brown size (Robusto) is only $34.99 as of now. Second, it’s not as strong as some of the brand’s usual suspects. Really is a win-win, but don’t take my word for it.
