More About Humidors

Once you start collecting cigars, it quickly becomes apparent that a humidor is a necessity. Not only to have a practical yet stylish space for your cigars, but to maintain their quality. The rule of thumb is that cigars should be kept in an environment that is 70 degrees Fahrenheit with 70% relative humidity. While a climate-controlled house may hover around 70 degrees, it probably isn't going to be humid enough. Hence, the humidor! Check out our awesome selection of humidors for personal or commercial use, as well as convenient travel humidors.

Getting Started with Your Humidor

Preparing a cigar humidor for use (also known as “seasoning”) is easy. Simply dampen a clean cloth with distilled water (sponges should be avoided) and carefully wipe down every interior surface of the humidor. Ideally, this should be done twice, giving it 24 hours after each wipe down.

After you've wiped down the interior, you'll want to put two things in your humidor before any cigars: a humidifier and a hygrometer. Humidifiers (like the convenient Boveda packs) will keep the humidity at a set level, while the hygrometer will allow you to keep track of the humidity and determine when a humidification pack needs recharging. Note: some humidors come with a built-in hygrometer, so be sure to check whether you need one before buying.

As mentioned above, the humidity reading should remain in the 70% range to keep your cigars at optimal freshness. As long as you consistently recharge or replace your humidification device, you'll always have the perfect place to store your cigars.
