As we venture further into the 21st century, there may eventually be no corner of modern life that remains untouched by web apps and technology. Whether you enjoy the convenience this offers or prefer old school approaches, the progress certainly seems inevitable. Just look at the new tech offered up by Light ’em Up and HumidifGroup.
That’s right, even the cigar industry is pushing boundaries in new and exciting ways. Reinhard Pohorec, founder of the renowned Light ’em Up Lounge, has taken cigars to cyberspace with the Light ’em Up GO app. Users will be able to find everything from virtual herfs to brick-and-mortar cigar shops in their area, all in one place.
In addition to that, HumidifGroup has joined in to add another dimension to the app. Any cigars that are sold in Smart Packaging (which HumidifGroup introduced in 2021) will grant access to Light ’em Up GO with the tap of a smart phone. This is especially useful because otherwise, the app is invite-only.
The “tap and go” technology being utilized for Light ’em Up GO and Smart Packaging is known as Near-Field Communication (NFC) and it’s been around for a while. For example, NFC is the reason newer credit and debit cards can be used by simply touching them to a screen. The minds behind the Light ’em Up GO app expect to expand on this technology even further, placing QR codes with NFC tags in various lounges and shops.
The end goal is a thriving online community of aficionados sharing information with each other with speed and ease. Looking for a specific blend? Need to find a cigar shop in an unfamiliar area? Just want to enjoy a herf? It looks like there’s going to be an app for that.
