This morning Cigar Aficionado revealed the #1 cigar of the year, the Cuban Montecristo No. 2.
Calling it “the undisputed king of torpedoes”, Cigar Aficionado declared the best-selling Cuban Montecristo No. 2 as Cigar of the Year after it scored a 96, the highest score ever given to the cigar in a blind taste test. The magazine has reviewed the No. 2 dozens of times over the past couple of decades, and while it always scored high, this year’s batch proved to be the best yet. Reviewers noted extraordinary flavors of rich leather, sweet spice, and tangy wood as components in the Montecristo No. 2’s great balance of strength and flavor.
A cigar known for its superb performance both before and after aging, the Montecristo No. 2 was one of the brand’s original sizes, dating back to its debut in 1935. In addition to its great commercial success, the No. 2 has long enjoyed a reputation as one of the finest cigars in the world. This years induction as Cigar Aficionado’s #1 cigar further cements the No. 2’s position of prominence among cigar smokers worldwide.
