Blackened S84 Shade To Black by Drew Estate Cigars

Drew Estate’s second collaboration with James Hetfield of Metallica and Master Distiller Rob Dietrich of Sweet Amber Distilling, the S84 Shade to Black introduces a creamy flood of palate-coating flavor to the best-selling Blackened series.

Medium in body and full in smooth taste, the S84 Shade to Black offers a lighter-wrapped alternative to the hit Blackened M81’s bold blend of diverse tobaccos. Offering a rush of woody and nutty tones with a wealth of tasty nuances, this artisan smoke was named in honor of Metallica’s iconic song “Fade To Black.”

Released as the first promotional single from Metallica’s second studio album Ride the Lightning in 1984, “Fade To Black” was the band’s first power ballad, breaking away from the typical punk-tinged thrash of their early years and betraying fans’ expectations at the time. With its acoustic intro, somber tone, and depressing lyrics, this was a marked change of pace for the then-burgeoning metal act. It was one of the few Metallica tracks to get radio airplay in the mid-to-late ’80s prior to the band’s breakout MTV success with the release of the single “One” in 1989. The mournful song took on a new gravity when it was featured in the 1987 video album Cliff ‘Em All following the tragic passing of original Metallica bassist Cliff Burton, and it remains a fixture in the band’s live performances.
