A lot can change in 10 years. For many people, that’s the duration of time between starting middle school and finishing college. And just like people, a tobacco leaf can mature quite a bit over those years. Macanudo’s new Vintage Maduro 2013 is the perfect example.
The Broadleaf wrapper of this well-crafted cigar was grown in the Connecticut River Valley circa 2013. As it turned out, the summer of ’13 proved to be one of the hottest on record for that region. The high humidity and mild nights of this growing season yielded beautiful, oily tobacco leaves. These exceptional leaves then spent a decade aging, allowing for a more full, complex flavor to develop.
Needless to say, this combination of optimal growing conditions and meticulous aging makes the wrapper leaf the star of the Macanudo Vintage Maduro 2013. That doesn’t mean there isn’t more to appreciate. Beneath that Broadleaf wrapper is a Honduran OSA binder, which holds a blend of four filler tobaccos: Brazilian Mata Fina, Nicaraguan Jalapa, Piloto Cubano Seco, and Piloto Cubano Ligero. These tobaccos combine to create a bold but balanced taste.
The flavor notes of the Macanudo Vintage Maduro 2013 span a wide range from the cigar’s first to final third. Aficionados will pick up on hints of earthy fruit, coffee, and dark chocolate. Grab a box of the Robusto (5 x 50), Toro Grande (6 x 54), or Churchill (7 x 49) from our humidor today.
