Nimish Desai of Rocky Patel Cigars shares with us some tips on how to tell the difference between Plume and Mold on a cigar.
Transcript:
Hi, my name is Nimish Desai. I’m with Rocky Patel Premium Cigars. People always ask me, “What is the difference between plume and mold?” And I always tell them it’s between heaven and hell.
Plume is incredible. What happens with plume is it happens over age, over time. You have a cigar sitting in a beautiful cedar box just aging, and what happens is it intensifies the caramelizations of the tobacco, and you get this light little fuzz. With plume, you should just be able to wipe it right off with your hand.
Now, if you have mold, what you don’t want is a big problem. Mold always comes because you have too much humidity in your humidor. People put way too much water or purification into their humidor, and that’s when you have a problem. And mold, unfortunately, you’re going to have to destroy your cigar.
I would never recommend smoking a cigar with mold because, yeah, you can wipe it off, but you don’t know what other bacterias could be in there.
