Wrapper: Connecticut Shade. Filler: Honduran, Nicaraguan, Dominican (Piloto Cubano). Binder: Connecticut Broadleaf. Country of Manufacture: Honduras. Factory Name: Honduras American Tabaco S. A., Cofradia, Honduras. -- The history: Introduced in the 1970s, Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur quickly made its mark as a super-premium cigar with an appealing price. To name but one of its many admirers, The Robb Report has recognized Excalibur as one of the world's five greatest cigars. The cigar: An extremely well constructed medium to full bodied cigar, Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur is a superb example of Honduran craftsmanship. Lighter in color than a Cuban cigar as a result of its fine Connecticut Shade wrapper, this cedar-aged cigar is made with a rich Honduran blend that is very much in the Cuban tradition. The experience: Like the legendary sword that inspired its name, Excalibur is a superbly balanced work of art.
My cigar journey has been about trying as many different recipes from as many different manufacturers as possible, but every time I smoke another Excalibur, it feels like coming home. These sticks are delicious, and they leave an impression I haven't had from any other cigar. Always going to be my go-to pick. The one thing about these is sometimes the cap can fall off, but it's easy enough to hold together.

I have been smoking these for many years now. They are the one cigar that always has a place in my humidor. I normally have at least a box of the No. 1 around and 10 for the No. 3.
Most stores rate these as a medium or medium-full, but I have always thought of the Connecticut's as a mild-medium. The Maduro's are definitely a medium-full. The flavor of the Connecticut's is light, very unique and delicious. They burn well (for me about 45 minutes),and I don't think I have ever had to relight one. I think the one thing I can say about the brand is that the Excalibur's are very consistent in look, taste and quality.
If you haven't try this cigar (which always gets a great point rating; usually between 89 and 92), you should give a 5 pack a try. I highly recommend them.

Okay, I really like Honduran cigars, but the Excalibur is my Sunday special Honduran of choice. Good burn, medium bodied and built well. I like to be able to bite down on a cigar and this one is the standard for a properly rolled and filled cigar. Certainly the cost isn't much of a consideration; they go about $5.25 each. Worth a try if your looking for a good churchill.
