The story behind Undercrown is almost as epic as the blend itself. This cigar, released in 2011, came about because the torcedores at the Drew Estate factory were smoking so many Liga Privadas that the company was having trouble keeping inventory. They blended Undercrown, which Jonathan Drew calls an “inverse Liga Privada,” to smoke instead, this time using an exceptionally dark Otapan Negro Último Corte wrapper leaf from Mexico. “Último Corte,” meaning “last cut,” refers to the process of delaying the harvest for several weeks in order to bring out the leaf’s natural sweetness. The Undercrown uses a Connecticut-grown stalk-cut Habano leaf (the same one used in Liga Privada T52) for its binder, and the filler is a blend of Brazilian Mata Fina and Cuban-seed Nicaraguan tobaccos. The result, as you could well imagine, is outstanding. Undercrown is chocolaty, earthy, creamy, and peppery with some of the richest tobacco flavors you can find. The construction is on par with any Drew Estate cigar, and ensures an easy draw and razor-straight burn from start to finish.

I have been smoking Drew Estate cigars for about the last 5 years. The Liga Privada Undercrown Gran Toro by Drew Estate, as well as the Liga Privada Undercrown Belicoso by Drew Estate are both great cigars. However, my real favoriite cigar by Drew Estate is the Liga Privada T52 Toro. It is too bad that Best Cigar Prices does not sell boxes of 25 of the Liga Privada T52 Toro, and only teases us with being able to order the Liga Privada T52 Toro's at only 4 cigars at a time. Okay, enough said. Back to my review. If you are an avid smoker of good cigars, you will not be disappointed with the Liga Privada Undercrown Gran Toro by Drew Estate. It's a good cigar to wind-down with after a long hard day at the office. I would recommend them to anyone who loves cigars and enjoys a good hearty smoke with a maduro wrapper that is a great value for the money. And always remember, "a woman is a woman, but a cigar is a good smoke." Cheers!
