Green Options for Your Cigar Waste

It can become easy to toss everything we no longer want or need into the trash without a second thought. However, when it comes to cigars and cigar packaging, you’d be surprised how many materials are recyclable, compostable, or otherwise reusable. If you’re a regular smoker, all of this can add up to a lot each year, so let’s look into some ways you can free up space in your trashcan and the local landfill.

Best Cigar Prices Packaging

Let’s start with the first thing opened when you receive your Best Cigar Prices order: the box. It should go without saying that our corrugated cardboard boxes can be recycled. After all, online shopping has become so commonplace that corrugated cardboard is now the most recycled material in the world. But what about the air cushions or packing paper inside the box? Good news: both of those materials are fully recyclable as well!

Cigar Boxes

Now that you’ve opened your BCP order like a kid on Christmas, let’s say you plan to transfer all of the cigars to your humidor. If you bought a full box of cigars, completing this task will leave you with an empty cigar box. Sure, it can be fun collecting cigar boxes, but if this is your go-to cigar, you likely don’t need another copy of the same box. This is when most people would simply toss it in the trash. But wait! Cigar boxes can actually be recycled, along with any paper material used as lining (as long as it’s free of metallic foil and wax).

Cellophane Wrappers

Now let’s say you’re ready to enjoy one of your premium cigars after a long day. Many high-end cigars now come individually wrapped in cellophane to keep each stick fresh and flavorful. It may come as a surprise, but this cellophane is actually made using renewable materials like wood or hemp. This doesn’t mean you can simply throw cellophane in your recycling bin, but it does mean that cellophane cigar wrappers are compostable. If you have a “brown waste” compost pile, then you can toss your cellophane there.

Cigar Butts

Finally, after you’ve finished your smoke, you leave your cigar butt in the ashtray with the others. Perhaps it’s about time to empty that ashtray
but not in the garbage. The tobacco leaves in a cigar butt have plenty of beneficial properties for your lawn and/or garden. Simply remove any bands and grind up the butts. You’ll be left with a fine tobacco dust that can be sprinkled on the ground to supercharge your soil with nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus. It can even act as a natural pest control against certain bugs and rodents! Now you know, from the box to the butts, just about every material in your cigar order can be recycled or repurposed. It’s almost enough to make you want to get a jump start on helping the planet by buying some more cigars!
