For seasoned cigar enthusiasts, a humidor is basically a must-have accessory. But for more casual smokers, or for folks holding onto cigars they plan to gift (see video below), buying a humidor can seem unnecessary. So, if you really don’t want one of the many gorgeous humidors in our inventory, fear not – we can still help you keep those stogies fresh.
If you are looking for a simple, inexpensive alternative to a humidor, you really can’t beat a humidity bag. Here at Best Cigar Prices, we offer our own Transmidity Humidity Bag, which conveniently comes with its own Humidipak from Boveda. The Humidipak ensures that the inside of the bag will stay around 72% relative humidity, which is ideal for cigars. That’s all you really need – a sealed container and an element to keep the sealed environment at the desired humidity. Best of all, the bag is re-usable and the humidipak only needs to be replaced every few months!
Perhaps you don’t have the time to wait for a humidity bag to be delivered. Or maybe you just really enjoy creating solutions with your own hands. Well, you can actually create your own humidor with everyday household items. Here’s what you’ll need: a large Tupperware container, a sponge, and some distilled water.
First, cut out a square from the sponge, since using the whole sponge will produce too much moisture. Then, simply wet the square you cut out with the distilled water. Do not soak the sponge, and if the sponge feels more wet than moist, ring a little more of the water out. Now place the sponge square in the Tupperware container along with your cigar(s). Naturally, avoid letting any cigars touch the sponge piece. This could make the cigar itself wet, which is obviously not preferable.
If you’re holding on to one or several cigars to gift to a friend or family member, both of the above options are great ways to ensure they stay fresh without investing in a humidor. We highly suggest using one of them. After all, you wouldn’t want to gift stale cigars, would you?
