Even as college students back in the 1990s, Jonathan Drew and Marvin Samel knew they wanted to take the cigar world by storm. So, as in every success story, they laid it all on the line. The pair packed up and traveled to Nicaragua to learn more about blending cigars, and they would eventually set up shop there.
By 1999, the duo was prepared to release ACID cigars. It was a name that came from NYC artist Scott “ACID” Chester, who provided the eye-catching artwork for the brand’s now-iconic packaging. Drew and Samel were so confident in their novel approach to cigar blending that they dubbed ACID “the rebirth of cigars.” As it turns out, this confidence was warranted. ACID cigars tasted like nothing else on the market, and they were attracting new and seasoned smokers alike.
