Michael Jordan’s love of cigars has been well known, from his recent documentary to this very blog. However, owning one of the historical sticks that he puffed upon is another matter entirely. But now super fans (of the super rich variety) will have a chance to do just that.
Lelands, an auction house for sports memorabilia, has placed the otherwise unremarkable cigar stub on their auction block as part of their 2022 Winter Classic. It appears to be an Oliva Serie V that has been smoked almost to the label, and comes with photographic evidence that Air Jordan himself smoked it.
With a starting bid of just $500, some aficionados may feel compelled to open their wallets and try to score this rare piece of sports (and tobacco) history. However, at the time of this blog’s publication, there are still eight days left for people to place their bids. If history is any indicator, that’s plenty of time for this little nub of tobacco to skyrocket in price.
For example, a ticket to Jordan’s first game sold for $468,000, and the shoes worn by Jordan when he broke his foot in ‘85 went for $422,000. Now, this cigar wasn’t smoked during a touchstone in Chicago Bulls history, but it’s still likely to fetch a pretty penny.
It’s worth noting, though, that you can procure not one, but several Oliva Serie V cigars from our humidor for a fraction of the price. MJ hasn’t smoked any of ours, but you’re certainly welcome to!
